My Top Closet Investments From the Last Few Years
Over the last few years, I’ve made myself a little promise: if I’m going to “treat myself,” it has to be something that’s worth holding onto. Not another impulse buy. Not another trend I’ll donate in a season. Something with staying power.
And listen… I’m absolutely not in my “buy whatever I want because I’m fancy” era. I have two kids in daycare, we’re building a home that’s about to need furniture, and honestly this stage of life just doesn’t call for constant splurging. But once in a while, I do like to add one really good piece to my closet — something with great reviews, great quality, and the potential to stay with me for years.
What I’m building is less a wardrobe and more a collection. Pieces I genuinely love. Pieces that make getting dressed easier. Pieces I know I’ll reach for 50 times instead of five.
These are my top investment (and “investment-ish”) purchases I’ve made over the last few years that I still reach for constantly.
1. The Quince Double-Faced Wool Trench Coat
The exact one in the photo isn’t mine because I bought my trench a year or two ago, but it’s still one of the best things in my closet. It’s warm, flattering, and instantly makes any outfit feel elevated.
Every time I put it on, I’m reminded why I love buying things I’ll have for years. It just works — with leggings, denim, dresses, everything.
2. AGOLDE Kelly High Rise Relaxed Straight
AGOLDE will forever be one of my favorite denim brands. They just get it.
They wash well, they hold their shape, and they still look amazing after multiple wears and washes. I only own this pair and a pair of AGOLDE jean shorts, but both have held up so well. They’re the definition of “buy one good pair instead of three mediocre ones.”
3. Reformation Cove Cashmere Oversized Crew
I don’t even have much to add here besides this: it’s a great sweater that has lasted me years.
And I’ll be honest… I bought mine brand new on Poshmark. Yes, I cheated. But here’s your reminder that if you ever want an investment piece without paying full price, check Poshmark first. People miss return windows. Life gets busy. Sometimes you can snag something that’s never been worn for half the price.
10 out of 10 recommend.
4. My Satin Skirt That I Wear Like It’s a Personality Trait
This isn’t technically an “investment piece,” but the cost per wear is so low that it basically counts.
I’ve worn this skirt multiple times a week every fall and winter for years. I wore it pregnant, postpartum, working, traveling… and it still looks perfect. Sometimes the best purchase isn’t the expensive one — it’s the one you wear nonstop.
5. The APPARIS Faux Fur Coat (My Rent the Runway Steal)
Another cheat: I didn’t pay full price for this either.
I rented it from Rent the Runway, fell in love, and ended up buying it for a fraction of the cost through my membership discount. And I’m so glad I did because this coat is iconic. I wear it every fall and winter and still haven’t gotten sick of it.
If I ever have a granddaughter one day (boy mom here), she’s getting this coat. It’s that good.
6. The Aritzia Lodge Pant
I wrote a whole post about these pants, so that should tell you everything.
They’re comfortable, polished, travel-friendly, and they do not wrinkle. I want every color. They’re one of the easiest “elevated basics” I’ve ever bought.
7. Schutz Maryana Boot
I bought these three years ago and still have yet to find a boot that compares. The comfort level is insane — I can wear them for 12 hours and my feet don’t hurt. Everyone’s feet are different, so your mileage may vary, but these have held up beautifully and go with everything.
They’re the kind of boot that makes an outfit even when you didn’t try.
I’m in a season of life where I’m very mindful about what I buy. Between two kids, daycare payments, building a home, and trying to keep my closet intentional, it’s not about quantity anymore.
It’s about the pieces I know I’ll still want to reach for years from now — the ones that make me feel good, fit well, and survive real mom-life.
And these are the ones that have earned their place.
